By combining different media, I explore the theme of movement within the plane and through time. The flat surface of a drawing offers a fixed moment—one frame from a larger story. Animation, on the other hand, captures and multiplies these moments, creating the illusion of movement by sequencing frozen instances together.

Physiologically, an image perceived by the eye lingers on the retina for a brief moment, even after its real source has disappeared from view. Just like when you close your eyes after looking at a bright light, and the shape of the light source remains visible beneath your eyelids, the brain blends the boundaries of static images in the dimension of time—provided these images replace each other quickly enough. In cinema, 24 frames per second are needed to faithfully reproduce reality. Classical animation uses 12 frames per second, but the illusion of movement doesn’t require even that many. I use 8 frames per second—the result is a middle ground that conjures the sense of motion from a sequence of still images, without losing the visual character of each static frame within the animation. In reality, it becomes a moving animation with a slightly stroboscopic shift between images.

Fizioloģiski acs uztverts attēls uz tīklenes saglabājas vēl mirkli pēc tam, kad reālais attēla avots jau ir pazudis skatienam. Tāpat, kā aizverot acis pēc spoža spīdekļa aplūkošanas, zem plakstiem joprojām manāms gaismas avota veidols, tā smadzenes sapludina acs uztverto statisko attēlu robežas laika dimensijā, ja vien šie attēli nomaina cits citu pietiekoši strauji. Kino, tiešai realitātes reproducēšanai, nepieciešami 24 kadri sekundē. Klasiskā animācija lieto 12 kadrus sekundē, bet kustības ilūzijas radīšanai nevajag pat tik daudz. Es lietoju 8 kadrus sekundē – iegūtais rezultāts ir vidusceļš, lai uzburtu kustību nekustīgu attēlu rindā, nezaudējot statisko attēlu vizuālo raksturu animācijā. Realitātē tā ir kustīga animācija ar nedaudz stroboskopisku attēlu maiņu.

no light falls / nekrīt gaisma

A shadow is a place where no light falls, which means there is a physical obstacle blocking that light—the human mind perceives the object casting the shadow as a physical existence. If there is a shadow, there must also be something that casts it. If there is no shadow, there is no object either.

I offer an opposite point of view—the existence of the shadow disproves the illusion of the object's non-existence. Just because the object or thing isn’t visible doesn’t mean it isn’t there.

Ēna ir vieta, kur nekrīt gaisma, tātad pastāv fizisks šķērslis, kas šo gaismu aiztur – cilvēka apziņa uztver ēnu metošo priekšmetu kā fizisku esību. Ja ir ēna, ir jābūt arī lietai, kas šo ēnu met. Ja nav ēnas, nav arī priekšmeta.   

Piedāvāju pretēju skata punktu – ēnas eksistence apgāž priekšmeta neesamības ilūziju. Ja nav redzams priekšmets – lieta, tas nenozīmē, ka viņas nav.
